| Wyre Forest Rescue On Tuesday 22nd July the 1st Kidderminster and 1st Lye Boys’ Brigades were camping in the Wyre Forest near Bewdley at Coopers Mill for the week. We had been playing some games in the forest when one of the boys told me that our Captain, Mrs Criddle, needed my help along with that of Warrant Officer Robert Clarke. So I ran down to the mill to find a young lad called Rhys who explained that his younger brother Andrew had fallen out of a high hide used for spotting wildlife and was in a lot of pain. We then ran over a mile up and down some hills in the very hot sun to the spot where Andrew was laying on the floor. There was no signal on Andrews’s uncles mobile to phone for help so I ran back to Coopers Mill with Robert to pick up my mobile phone leaving Mrs Criddle at the scene to give reassurance. I then ran up the hill behind the mill to try and get a signal but couldn’t so I then ran about half a mile further on and managed to get a signal. I rang 999 and gave instructions and details to the controller, but this still wasn’t easy with a poor signal and being in a forest with little landmarks to give reference. I was told the ambulance was on its way and ran up to the main road to meet the vehicle. I was met by the off road ambulance and the paramedic asked me to get in which was a relief. I gave directions as close to the spot where Andrew was and I carried the oxygen cylinder and walked with the paramedic to Andrew. The paramedic gave treatment for Andrews’s ankle which was badly sprained from the fall and then went back and drove her ambulance up to us. Once the pain relief was working and a splint applied I assisted in lifting Andrew into the front of the vehicle and took him and his uncle to hospital. Robert arrived back with water which was very welcome drink. We then walked back to the mill and took Rhys back home to Kidderminster. On the return I had a well earned break and counted the blisters on my feet but I was glad that we were able to help out. Graham Knight 1st Kidderminster Boys’ Brigade |

| The Battalion has had confirmation that the Battalion Church Parade to be held on the 5th October at 15:00pm at Sansome Walk Baptist Church, will be recorded for BBC Hereford & Worcester Radio! This is a fantastic opportunity to advertise what the Brigade is all about. As the Parade will include the GB, there will be a number of Special Guests from the BB and the GB as well as the VIP's and Mayors. As this Parade service will be broadcast on BBC Hereford & Worcester Radio, we are really hoping for a very strong attendance from all the Companies in the Battalion. This will be an unmissable opportunity to advertise not only your company to your local area but the whole Brigade and all for absolutely free! We would also like to stress that this invitation is open to all of the Girls Brigade companies as well so please bring them along as there will be Special Guests from the GB present also. | On Tuesday 1st July, 1st Pensnett BB hosted a Birds of Prey Evening. The Falconry Centre in Hagley came and demonstrated a Harris Hawk, and Golden Eagle Owl and a Golden Eagle- all of which were amazing. Jack in the Anchors had a close encounter with a Harris hawk and Hayley, the company officer had a brief encounter with thKash the Eagle Owl. It was a fantastic night and all sections enjoyed it, even when the eagle did a whoopsey on the carpet. I would definitely recommend the falconry centre. £95 per session and its very interactive. A great time was had by all and good way to end a Brigade Session. Jamie Haden-Walker Captain 1st Pensnett. |

| For 125 years the BB has been an important part of the lives of many thousands of people, young and old. Each BB Member has left their mark upon the Movement and made it what it is now. The Garden will, hopefully, be a place of pilgrimage where members and ex-members may reflect upon those who have served the Brigade. |
